Outbuilding & Area Clearance

Barn & Farm Outbuilding Clearance

Barn and farm outbuilding clearance handles the mixed contents of agricultural buildings — machinery, timber, metal, general waste and accumulated stores — with a survey first, because these sites carry risks a domestic clearance does not.

Quick answer

Who it is for: Farmers, landowners, estate managers and agents clearing barns, stables and farm outbuildings.

What it covers: Removal and separation of mixed materials, with scrap metal and reusable items handled appropriately, after a site survey.

When a survey is needed: A site survey is usually needed, to assess volume, access for larger vehicles, and any chemicals, oils, asbestos or machinery.

Farm outbuildings tend to hold a bit of everything: old machinery, tyres, timber, scrap metal, fertiliser or chemical stores, and years of general waste. Sorting that mix properly is what keeps the job compliant and keeps value in the metal and reusable items.

Because agricultural sites can involve hazardous materials and heavy machinery, iTrade surveys first and agrees clearly what is included and what needs a specialist.

Scope

What is included, what needs checking, and what is not

Included as standard
  • Removal of general contents and accumulated waste
  • Separating scrap metal, timber and general waste
  • Handling reusable machinery, tools and materials appropriately
  • Clearing to allow reuse or sale of the building
  • A tidy finish suited to the site
Conditional or quoted separately
  • Large or fixed machinery that needs specialist lifting or dismantling
  • Tyres, which have their own disposal route
  • Quantities of scrap metal, valued or priced separately
  • Difficult access for larger vehicles across the site
Not included
  • Suspected asbestos in older farm roofs or panels needs a separate, competent assessment. Some asbestos work requires an HSE-licensed contractor
  • Agricultural chemicals, fertilisers, fuels, oils and veterinary or clinical waste
  • Anything not agreed for removal

How the work runs

From first enquiry to handover

  1. Enquiry

Describe the buildings, what is stored, access for vehicles and any known hazards.

  2. Site survey

iTrade surveys the site to assess volume, access, machinery and any specialist materials.

  3. Written quotation and scope

You receive a quote setting out what is included, what is valued separately and what is excluded.

  4. Clearance and separation

The team clears and separates materials, recovering metal and reusable items.

  5. Handover and records

The completed area is checked against the agreed scope. Before booking, confirm which waste transfer record applies to the job, who will issue it and who must retain it.

What to have ready for an accurate quote

  • The more of this you can share, the faster iTrade can give a realistic figure:

Reassurance and compliance

A farm or business has a waste duty of care under section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which includes passing waste only to an authorised carrier and keeping a waste transfer note for each load for at least two years. Some agricultural and hazardous wastes have additional rules.

iTrade Recycling Ltd is registered with the Environment Agency as an Upper Tier carrier, broker and dealer under CBDU521652. The public record was checked on 10 August 2026 and expires on 9 February 2027; customers should follow the official register link and check it again before hiring.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Can you include machinery in a barn clearance?

Smaller machinery and equipment can be included. Large or fixed machinery may need specialist lifting or dismantling, confirmed at the survey.

What about asbestos roofing?

Older farm buildings may contain asbestos. Suspected material needs a separate, competent assessment, and some asbestos work requires an HSE-licensed contractor outside the general clearance.

Can you take tyres and old chemicals?

Tyres have a separate disposal route that can be arranged. Agricultural chemicals and fuels are excluded from a general clearance and need the correct route.

Is scrap metal valued?

Potential resale value is assessed during the quotation. Any agreed purchase, credit or offset is itemised in writing before work begins; no value adjustment is assumed.
